In Canada, Alcan Cable is a division of Alcan Inc, Montreal, Quebec. The company manufactures aluminum redraw rod at Lapointe Works, which is located in Jonquière Quebec. Lapointe Works produces aluminum rod, using the Properzi continuous casting process, for electric conductors, co-axial shield wire, screen wire, cold heading, and de-oxidizing rod for the steel industry.
Alcan Cable is also the largest supplier of aluminum strip for armored cables in North America. St-Maurice Works in Shawinigan, Quebec has fully automated mills for the production of hard alloy aluminum strip. Alcan aluminum strip is used in the production of armored electrical cables for the construction and industrial markets. It provides mechanical protection for the conductors, increased throughput using alloys with superior formability, and overall weight saving for cable manufacturers.
